The Lily Housing Corporation
(LHC) is a faith-based non-profit charity 501(C) 3, and was
formed in July of 2001 in an effort to address the new and emerging
class of homeless families in the Hampton Roads community. The
ministry derives its mission from the words of Christ found in the
Gospel of Luke:
“Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither
toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory
was not arrayed like one of these" (Luke 12:27).
It is our belief that the Kingdom
Christ came to establish values each individual and that God, The
Father places high priority upon the welfare of His own. We
have identified a silent population of working class families, often
headed by single, divorced or separated women in transition and
therefore, in acute need of housing assistance. The targeted
population includes working female heads- of- household and their
children failing to qualify for government subsidies and for whom
available temporary housing programs cannot meet their long-term
needs. The Lily Housing Corporation is the vision of
its founder, Dr. Keira Taylor-Banks and associates Dr. Mickey
Collins, Vikki Ammons, Renee Carter, Johnnie Lloyd, Deatrice Tucker,
Dr. Saundra Cherry, Dr. Rachel Blisson and Cornelia Browning-Moore.
The need for transitional housing
is evident throughout the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Many
working families often headed by females, are competing with the
unemployed and long-term homeless individuals and families for
temporary shelter and transitional housing. Often, working
poor families must live in substandard hotels or remain in
overcrowded living conditions because there is no alternative. The
Lily Housing Corporation will be part of the solution to the
daily difficulties faced by the working homeless population in
Hampton Roads, since we exist to offer temporary housing to
qualified working families in need of short and long-term housing
assistance.
